pronation

Pronation in the foot describes some lowering of the medical aspect of the foot which occurs when walking or running. A certain amount of pronation is completely normal and in fact is essential in gait. Pronation only becomes a problem when it exceeds the foot's required level, resulting in painful strain of the medical arch structures, the plantar fascia, the inside of the leg, and can even lead to painful jamming of joins on the lateral side of the foot below the ankle joint. Poor foot structure, injuries, unsupportive shoe gear, and even daily activities can all eventually lead to excessive pronation. Treatment is almost always conservative in nature.
