Warts are actually evidence of a viral infection of the skin. They present as encapsulated or walled off abnormal skin tissue, usually on the bottom of the foot. They may present with callus tissue and often show small black spots, which are actually blood vessels supplying the wart tissue. They bleed easily when shaved, and are frequently painful when they are squeezed from the side to side. There are a variety of conservative methods used to rid a patient of warts. In rare instances, skin surgery may be needed in stubborn cases.
